Opensolr Photos 1.9: Browse Your Folders, and Find Photos Like Any Photo

Opensolr Photos, the free and open-source Android app that makes the photos on your phone searchable by what they show, keeping them on your phone and their descriptions in an Opensolr Index of your own.

01 Browse your folders

A library kept as year, month and day is thousands of folders, and a flat list of tick boxes is unusable at that size. Folders are now opened one level at a time, with the path above them and a tap on any step to go back up.

• Each folder shows the number of photos in it and in everything below it, so a year tells you what the whole year holds.
• Ticking a folder takes it and every folder under it, which is what syncing always did. Its subfolders then read Already included by…, and any of them ticked earlier is dropped, since the parent already covers them.
• Walking into a folder asks Android nothing new: the tree is built from the list the app already read.

02 Photos like this one

Press and hold a photo and pick Similar: the duplicates slider, anchored to that photo instead of to the whole index. Every stop asks what else carries that photo's key, from the same first word through the same shot by its camera details to the same file name or size.

• The photo you started from is ringed among the results and marked, so what the others are being compared with is never a guess.
• Back to search returns to the search you were on, with its words and its filters.
• A search you typed now stays visible when you come back from albums, duplicates or similar photos.

03 Readable, in both themes

• Filled buttons, selection ticks, the map's group badges and the switch use a deeper accent with white on it: 5.8:1 in the light theme, 4.9:1 in the dark one.
• A photo's details now carry one row of labelled icons — Edit, Gallery, Similar, and Map and Nearby when the photo has a position.
• The duplicates slider used to be drawn in the colour of the background at its loosest stop in the dark theme, which took the slider and the name under it with it. The scale now has a set of colours for each theme.

The app is free, open source and MIT licensed. It needs an Opensolr account and one index per phone; nothing about your photos goes anywhere else.
