Opensolr Photos 1.14: A Day at a Time, and Any Date Range You Like

Two things were getting in the way of the same task: finding the photos of one particular day. A month of holiday photos arrived as a single unbroken run of hundreds of thumbnails, and the only way to narrow by time was to pick a whole year. Both are fixed in 1.14.

01 Every month, broken into its days

Browsing now groups on two levels. Today, Yesterday and the weekdays of the last six days stand on their own, because each of them is already a day. Anything older is a month with its days underneath it:

• Each day has its own heading — Saturday 5, Friday 4 — that folds away with a tap and then says how many it is hiding.
• While selecting, a tap on a heading ticks everything under it: the whole month, or just that one day.
• Headings are bigger and bolder, which also makes them easier to aim a thumb at.
• A month whose photos all fall on the same day is left alone: a second heading saying the same thing helps nobody.

The grouping is worked out on the phone from the date each photo already carries, so it costs no extra request and nothing had to change in the index.

02 A date range in the filters

Under the list of years there is now a calendar: pick a start day and an end day, and both are included. “That week in July” is one filter rather than a year to scroll through.

The years stay where they were, on purpose. A list of years tells you which years actually hold photos, and how many; an empty calendar tells you nothing. Use the years for a quick jump and the calendar for anything narrower.

03 Installing it

Nothing to reset. This version changes only the app, so it installs over the one you have and your index is untouched.
